The Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies (ACCTA) has made a strong commitment to increasing diversity in the organization’s membership and in its members’ knowledge about diversity issues. Consequently, ACCTA developed the Diversity Mentorship Scholarship Program to provide an opportunity for professional development to individuals who are interested in becoming training directors, who have a strong commitment to training, who are actively involved in a current training program, and who represent diversity.

The scholarship covers expenses for attendance at the ACCTA conference as described below. The Conference is one of the few professional development opportunities for psychologists to develop skills, increase knowledge about internship training issues, and to network with other training directors for future employment opportunities. ACCTA Diversity Mentorship Scholarships are awarded annually to enable two individuals to participate in the ACCTA Fall Conference. The scholarships will cover registration, housing and meal expenses, and travel expenses for the conference. As part of the scholarship program, it is expected that each of the recipients will present a conference program related to diversity and excellence in training.


1. Any individual who has not previously held a position as a Counseling Center Training Director of a psychology internship program, but who is interested in possibly doing so in the future, or who has a strong commitment to training and is actively involved in a training program currently, and who has two years of postdoctoral Counseling Center experience by the application deadline (Thursday, May 4, 2017).
2. An individual who represents diversity in one of the following ways:

    A. Race/Ethnicity

    B. Sexual or affectional orientation

    C. Gender variance

    D. Disability status

Selection Criteria:
Candidates will be selected based upon the applicant’s contributions to training and readiness to use the training opportunity to enhance his/her work with the trainees and the training program.

Selection Process:

The selection will be made by the Executive Committee of the ACCTA Board of Directors, the Diversity Committee Liaison to the Board of Directors, the Co-Chairs of the Standing Committee on Diversity and the Co-Chairs of the Diversity Mentorship Scholarship Program.

Review Process and Timeline:

Current ACCTA Training Directors should encourage eligible persons to submit nominations for the ACCTA Diversity Mentorship Scholarship. All application materials must be received by 11:59 p.m., EST, Wednesday, May 3, 2017. The selection committee will make their decision and notify the awardees on or before Friday, June 16, 2017. The board will consider two alternate candidates in the unlikely event that one or both of the recipients, due to unforeseen circumstances, are unable to accept the award.
